I am fascinated with attempts to understand the complexities of our world—past, present and future. Fossils, ancient artifacts and discoveries in science, as one layer is peeled back, another is exposed. A new world lies hidden within. Like pieces of a puzzle, sometimes they fit and other times they remain a mystery. I try to bring this feeling of discovery into my art work. Rather than telling a story or creating a picture, I am presenting a unique visual experience, a series of events that exist only on my work surface. The story is then left for the viewerʼs interpretation.
In much of my work, I incorporate heavy textures with found and fabricated objects in a low sculptural relief. The resulting interplay of light and shadow enhances the mystery of discovery. The visual impact changes with different lighting conditions.
